In a show of unity and commitment to the environment, Mindanao State University at Naawan took part in a historic Guinness World Record attempt for the “Most People Planting Bamboo Simultaneously” across multiple venues, today, October 18, 2024.
Organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), this record-setting initiative saw 76 passionate faculty, staff, and students from MSUN’s Forestry and Environmental Science Departments of the Coollege of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) participate in the event.
Held in Brgy. Awang, Opol, the MSUN team joined forces with institutions such as Local Government Unit of Opol, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, Department of Trade and Industry Region X, and FICCO to plant bamboo precisely at 9:00 a.m., Philippine Standard Time.

Moreover, this coordinated effort spanned Mindanao, with numerous groups across the island simultaneously contributing to this incredible feat.
The bamboo planting is part of the larger Kawayanihan Circular Economy Movement, a visionary project of DOST designed to promote the cultivation and use of bamboo in driving a sustainable circular economy. The movement not only focuses on geotagging planting sites but also aims to meet the rising global demand for bamboo as a renewable raw material.
By advocating for collaboration between public and private sectors, Kawayanihan is set to bridge critical gaps in the value chain, from cultivation to production, propelling the bamboo industry into a thriving, sustainable enterprise.

This monumental event marks a significant step toward environmental sustainability, boosting both ecological preservation and economic opportunities within the bamboo industry.
MSUN is proud to be a part of this groundbreaking initiative, reinforcing its commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable future.
Stay tuned as the world awaits confirmation of this record-breaking achievement!
