Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) conducted an immediate post-earthquake assessment of its buildings and structures on Monday, June 8, 2026, following the strong earthquake that occurred at approximately 7:37 a.m., with its epicenter reported about 70 kilometers from Polomolok, South Cotabato.
The post-earthquake inspection was headed by the University Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, and the Office of Campus Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (OCDRRM), reflecting the administration’s prompt response and commitment to ensuring the safety of the MSUN community.
Shortly after the morning flag ceremony, the assessment team proceeded with a rapid ocular inspection across the four university lots to check for visible signs of earthquake-related damage and determine the immediate condition of campus facilities.
Â
Based on the initial assessment, MSUN’s buildings and structures were found to be generally intact and serviceable, with no major structural failure observed at the time of inspection. However, several buildings showed visible cracks that require documentation, monitoring, and further technical evaluation.
Â
In view of the findings, MSUN emphasized the need for continuous monitoring, proper documentation of crack progression, and prompt repair of affected areas.
The post-earthquake assessment affirms the university’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders while preserving the structural integrity of university facilities. Although the initial inspection indicates that campus buildings and structures remain generally safe, the university will continue to observe precautionary measures and implement necessary actions to maintain a secure learning and working environment.
