Center for Microplastic and Innovation (CMRI)

Vision:

To be a pioneering hub for cutting-edge research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovative solutions in addressing microplastic
pollution, promoting environmental sustainability, and public health through science and innovation.

Mission:

To advance research, develop innovative solutions, and engage communities in addressing microplastic pollution through science-based strategies, education, and collaboration. We aim to empower students and
researchers with hands-on, research-driven learning while fostering partnerships at the local, national, and global levels.

Major Areas of Research:
  • Microplastic Detection and Characterization
    Polymer Analysis
  • Ecotoxicology and Health Impacts
  • Food and Seafood Safety
  • Data Analytics and Modeling

On-Going Projects:

MicroCapture Project:

  • Microplastic Capture through Electrostatically-Assisted Silica-Modified Substrate: A Novel Environmental Mitigation Approach to Microplastic Pollution

Funding Agency: DOST-PCIEERD Grants-In-Aid Program

MicroThreatenence Project:

  • Microplastics in Processed (Sea)foods: Probing Their Threat to Food Security and Sustenance, and Assessment of Toxicological Impacts through Computational Simulations with Implications for the Establishment of Analytical Standards (Microthreatenence)
