AACCUP PSV concludes with commendation from evaluation team

On May 22, 2026, Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) successfully concluded its five-day AACCUP Preliminary Survey Visit, receiving commendation from the evaluation team for its strong commitment to academic excellence, quality instruction, student services, and continuous institutional improvement. During the evaluation, accreditors reviewed the University’s programs, facilities, systems, and support services, noting the collective effort of faculty, staff, and offices in ensuring that documents, processes, and institutional practices were aligned with accreditation standards.  As part of the visit, MSUN also presented a virtual campus tour on May 21 for the BSBA major in Marketing Management, which provided evaluators with an overview of key campus facilities. The presentation was spearheaded by College of Business and Information Technology (CBIT) faculty members Assoc. Prof. Heslie Ree P. Pontillo and Asst. Prof. Oliver Daniel J. Vicente. AACCUP Coordinator Dr. Ma. Florida T. Quijano expressed appreciation for the presentation, saying, “Natuwa po ako sa mga facilities na ipinakita niyo sa campus tour. Kahit wala ako diyan naramdaman ko po na kasama po ako physically sa tour.” During the closing ceremony, AACCUP Coordinator Dr. Jovita Espineda-Villanueva delivered the Statement of Commitment, recognizing the dedication and collaborative efforts of the MSUN faculty and staff who extended time and effort to address concerns raised during the evaluation.  Representatives from the different colleges also expressed gratitude for the support extended throughout the review. Ms. Jolibe Llido, on behalf of the College of Environment and Life Sciences (CELS), thanked the various offices for their cooperation and acknowledged the dedication of colleagues in responding to the accreditors’ suggestions. Asst. Prof. Dianne Kate Nacua of the College of Education and Social Sciences (CESS) described the conclusion of the visit as “a collective sigh of relief and a profound sigh of deep gratitude,” encouraging the community to carry the feedback forward as they continue “Forging Minds for a Better Tomorrow.” Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Junaisah Nissi L. Degoma of the College of Business and Information Technology (CBIT) noted that the evaluation team’s guidance would further strengthen their programs in pursuit of institutional excellence. While the visit served as the initial evaluation of the programs, the University now awaits the final assessment, which is expected to be released within three months.  Through this rigorous accreditation process, MSUN continues to strengthen its systems, programs, and services as a progressive and student-centered institution committed to meeting the expectations of its stakeholders, community, and the nation.

MSUN Research Teams Secure 1st and 2nd Place in Best Scientific Poster at the 2026 Mindanao RSM

On May 19–20, 2026, research teams from Mindanao State University at Naawan showcased their scientific innovations at the 2026 Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting (RSM), held at Hotel Oazis, Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, where they secured the 1st and 2nd Place Awards in the Best Scientific Poster Category. Anchored on the theme “UN SDGs: Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development,” the regional scientific meeting gathered researchers, scientists, and institutions committed to advancing sustainable development through science, technology, and innovation. Securing the 1st Place award was the research team led by Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan. Their study, titled “Catching the Unseen: Electrostatic Silica Modified Hydrogel Beads for Next-Generation Microplastic Capture,” presents an innovative, science-driven approach to addressing microplastic pollution, contributing to environmental sustainability and technological advancement. Clinching the 2nd Place award was the research group presented by Mr. Ariel T. Antinero, along with his research collaborators. Their study, titled “Advancing SDG 14 Through Environmental DNA Metabarcoding: Fish Diversity and Habitat Connectivity in Coral Reef–Seagrass–Mangrove Ecosystems of FMA 9, Philippines,” highlights the critical role of advanced genetic tools in marine conservation, resource management, and ecological resilience. Organized by the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the DOST Mindanao Cluster led by DOST-Region XIII (Caraga), the two-day regional scientific meeting serves as a major preparatory activity for the 48th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of NAST PHL, scheduled on July 8–9, 2026, in Metro Manila. The active participation and double victory of MSU at Naawan underscore the university’s steadfast commitment to spearheading high-impact research, innovation, and evidence-based solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). MSU at Naawan extends its warmest congratulations to its brilliant faculty-researchers, innovators, and their teams. MSUN advances gender-responsive education through intensive 3-day workshop 

Aimed at enhancing the university’s academic framework through the development of inclusive syllabi and modules, Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) successfully conducted a comprehensive Gender and Society Seminar and Workshop on May 11 to 13, 2026. Organized by the Office of the Curriculum Development and Services in collaboration with the  Department of Social Sciences and Humanities under the College of Education and Social Sciences, this three-day initiative brought together faculty and experts to align instructional materials with contemporary gender-responsive standards. The event was marked by a profound message of support from University Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa, who lauded the participants for their commitment to the institution’s mission. In her message, Dr. Roa expressed that at this point, she would not be the one to provide inspiration or support, but rather it was the participants themselves who inspired her through their immense effort and dedication. Dr. Roa also reiterated that teachers are called to help build a community that is understanding and accepting.  This sentiment was echoed by Assoc. Prof. Desheree Judena G. Preciado, who delivered an inspirational message on the opening day, urging the educators to embrace their roles as transformative agents of change. Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in rigorous sessions led by resource speaker Ms. Mariel S. Quiogue of Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), covering the fundamentals of gender and society as well as the intricate details of GEC123 syllabus designing that is aligned with the CHED standard and MSUN program objectives. The second day featured a dynamic “World Cafe” session for the presentation of learning content, assessments, and activities, followed by feedback and topic enhancement. The seminar concluded on the third day with the finalization of the developed syllabi and a formal presentation of outputs, facilitated by Mr. Elmer A. Barredo.  Through this collaborative effort, MSUN continues to solidify its position as a leader in academic excellence and socially conscious education.

On May 12, 2026, our Level 1 Nursing students at the MSUN Department of Nursing successfully completed their College-to-College Pre-Clinical Exposure. From checking vital signs to performing capillary blood glucose tests, our student nurses demonstrated their skills by serving the faculty and student body. MSUN conducts comprehensive training on Halal awareness

With the aim of strengthening institutional commitment to cultural inclusivity and specialized academic standards, Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) conducted a Comprehensive Halal Awareness Training held on May 7–9, 2026, at the MSUN Fisheries Science Building. In line with this goal, the intensive three-day program was organized by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in partnership with the Office of the Curriculum Development and Services, led by Dr. Fernan Q. Abragan. The initiative was designed to equip faculty and staff with essential knowledge and practical skills in Halal principles and practices. The training featured distinguished resource speakers endorsed by the leader author of the Halal 101 and the Executive Vice President of the MSU System Dr. Abdulcader Ayo  from the King Faisal Center for Islamic, Arabic, and Asian Studies of the MSU-Main Campus, namely Prof. Aleem Shanolah A. Rasuman, Prof. Aleem Mohammad Saddam M. Naga, and Prof. Aleem Mohammad Rajjal B. Manumbilao. Through a combination of lecture discussions and interactive workshops, participants explored fundamental Halal concepts, principles, laws related to Halal, its  applications, and culturally responsive practices. In addition to the learning sessions, participants engaged in workshop activities and presented institutional outputs that reflected their understanding and application of the training topics. At the heart of this workshop  is Halal 101, or Fundamentals of Halal,  which seeks to institutionalize a course that advances cultural preservation, and contextualized learning, ensuring that our students are grounded not only in knowledge, but in values that strengthen mutual respect. The program concluded with a formal awarding of certificates, recognizing the active participation and commitment of the attendees. Ultimately, through this training, MSUN continues to strengthen its academic framework and ensure that institutional practices remain inclusive, culturally sensitive, and responsive to evolving global and regional Halal standards.

MSUN, NIAE sign MOU for possible collaborative training

Through the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on May 7, 2026, Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) and the Navigators of Innovative and Academic Endeavors, Inc. (NIAE) officially forged a partnership dedicated to advancing professional development opportunities for educators. Leading the signing ceremony were MSUN Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa and NIAE President Dr. Dolores S. Pattuinan, representing their respective institutions. The collaboration was further strengthened by the support of Dr. Emmylou A. Emperador, Dean of the College of Education and Social Sciences (CESS), and Director Leemarc C. Alia of the Office of Advanced Education and Lifelong Learning (OAELL). As part of the agreement, the partnership will spearhead an intensive two-day seminar-workshop in August 2026, centered on the timely and relevant themes of Artificial Intelligence in Education and Mental Health. Private and public school teachers can anticipate a dynamic learning experience featuring eight specialized sessions facilitated by distinguished experts and guest lecturers, including a plenary session focused on collaboration and professional networking. To ensure the successful implementation of the initiative, NIAE will oversee the process and documentation requirements, while MSUN will provide the venue and technical support facilities. Ultimately, the partnership reflects both institutions’ shared commitment to empowering educators, promoting innovation in teaching and learning, and cultivating a globally responsive academic community.

MSU at Naawan Meets with Développement international Desjardins (DID)

On May 2, 2026, representatives from Développement international Desjardins (DID) visited Mindanao State University at Naawan as part of the initial implementation phase of the Increased Resilience to Natural Disasters for Women Agro-Entrepreneurs in the Philippines (KLIMA) Project. The KLIMA Project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, aims to strengthen the resilience of women agro-entrepreneurs, particularly in addressing climate-related risks and natural disasters affecting agricultural livelihoods. The DID team, composed of Consultant Veronique Doyon, Advisor Isabelle Johnson, and Project Coordinator Celyna Joy Ng Co, engaged in productive discussions with MSUN representatives, including ATBI Project Leader Karem A. Palmes, University Extension Specialist Harry Kenn De La Rosa, OGEP Director Benjoe Rey B. Visayas, International Program Manager Athena Jenica A. Castillo, and Darlene Reble. The discussions highlighted the University’s initiatives in agri-aqua innovation, enterprise development, and community-based incubation programs, with particular emphasis on supporting women entrepreneurs. The delegation was also given a tour of MSUN facilities, including processing areas and aquaculture hatcheries. The engagement served as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and potential collaboration, aligning MSUN’s ATBI, extension, and innovation efforts with the broader objectives of the KLIMA Project. It also underscored the vital role of women in agriculture and entrepreneurship. Both parties expressed a shared commitment to strengthening partnerships that promote inclusive and climate-resilient livelihoods in vulnerable communities. In addition, MSUN representatives, including OES Director Dr. Aida D. Perpetua and CHRIS Center Head Christian Fel Batoctoy, participated in the Multi-Stakeholder Consultation Forum held on May 5 in Cagayan de Oro City, contributing insights and perspectives to the project’s development. MSUN, ICPSC strengthen academic partnership through benchmarking visit

On May 4, 2026, Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) and Iligan City Polytechnic State College (ICPSC) strengthened their academic ties through a high-level benchmarking visit aimed at enhancing the Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTED) program. The ICPSC delegation was warmly received by Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa, Vice Chancellor for Strategic Planning and Initiatives Assoc. Prof. Frederick B. Cabactulan, and the Office of the Quality Assurance and Management System.  During the visit, the team explored MSU at Naawan’s specialized facilities to gain insights and support for their Fish Capture and Fish Processing specializations, ensuring their students have access to the latest industry-standard learning environments. In addition to the facility tour, both institutions are currently in active talks regarding the details of a faculty exchange initiative. This proposal seeks to designate MSUN experts as adjunct faculty members for ICPSC, a move designed to provide students with a more grounded and practical learning experience through regional expertise. Through this collaborative effort, ICPSC and MSUN are poised to elevate the standards of technical-vocational education in Northern Mindanao, fostering innovation and stronger institutional connections in the field of fisheries and aquatic resources.

OVCRIGE Conducts Benchmarking Visit on Research Ethics at Caraga State University

The Research and Extension Ethics Section of Mindanao State University at Naawan, under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Global Engagement (OVCRIGE), successfully conducted a benchmarking visit at Caraga State University on April 29, 2026. The activity forms part of the University’s continuing efforts to strengthen its research ethics framework and align institutional practices with the standards of the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB). The MSU at Naawan delegation was led by Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan, Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Global Engagement, and included Ms. Richelle A. Niepes and Ms. Jackie Lou Z. Dacula from the College of Environment and Life Sciences (CELS), as well as Ms. Jovelyn L. Cabanatan from the College of Education and Social Sciences (CESS). The benchmarking visit facilitated meaningful discussions and knowledge exchange between the two institutions, enabling the delegation to gain valuable insights into best practices, ethics review processes, and compliance mechanisms. These learnings are expected to further enhance the University’s ethics review system and operational standards. The activity was further strengthened by the active participation of the Vice Chancellor, whose presence underscored the University’s strong commitment to advancing research ethics and promoting the responsible conduct of research.
