“Collaboration is the key to unlocking innovation and progress. By working together, we combine strengths, share knowledge, and build a foundation for lasting success,” remarked Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan, Director of the Office of International Affairs and Linkages at Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN), as he announced a groundbreaking partnership with Taiwan’s Institute of Chemistry and the Biodiversity Research Center, Academia Sinica, on October 22, 2024.

This partnership, aimed at advancing the field of coral research, brings together esteemed MSUN delegates, including Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa, Principal Investigator of the CoReM Hub Center; Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, Prof. Renoir A. Abrea; Director Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan; and OVCRE Secretary Dr. Anabelle Dece A. Espadero. The delegation engaged in dynamic discussions with their counterparts from Academia Sinica, exploring collaborative research opportunities and knowledge exchanges that will support coral conservation and broader marine science initiatives.

This partnership between the two universities strengthens their shared commitment to advancing coral research and fostering scientific exchanges in chemistry and biodiversity. Academia Sinica, one of Taiwan’s premier research institutions, brings expertise and resources to support MSUN’s efforts in exploring coral health and resilience, a priority area given Mindanao’s rich marine ecosystem.

As a regional leader in coral research, MSUN aims to foster lasting success through joint studies, knowledge sharing, and resource exchanges, underscoring its dedication to keeping coral research a vibrant and critical field within marine science. This partnership strengthens MSUN’s role as a catalyst for coral conservation, ensuring the preservation of biodiversity and the advancement of sustainable solutions across the Philippines and beyond.

This partnership reflects MSUN’s mission to expand the reach of marine science by bringing together local and international expertise. Through this collaboration, MSUN aims to boost research efforts and build a stronger foundation in science, ultimately helping to deepen our global understanding and protect vital marine ecosystems.
