MSUN strengthens disaster preparedness through National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

The Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN), through the Office of Campus Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, successfully conducted the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on July 6, 2026 at the College of Environment and Life Sciences (CELS) and the Research and Extension offices.

Reinforcing the University’s commitment to disaster preparedness and the safety of its academic community, faculty members, staff, and students actively participated in the simulation, beginning with an orientation on earthquake safety protocols before carrying out the standard “Drop, Cover, and Hold” procedure, followed by an orderly evacuation to designated assembly areas.

The activity assessed the University’s emergency response capabilities while promoting awareness of proper earthquake safety measures among its constituents. Observers monitored the drill, which demonstrated effective coordination among safety officers and emergency response teams.

Although the evacuation was completed within an acceptable timeframe, the exercise also identified opportunities to further improve communication systems, crowd management, and evacuation route efficiency.

By regularly conducting emergency preparedness activities such as the NSED, MSUN continues to cultivate a culture of resilience, readiness, and shared responsibility, ensuring that every member of the University community is equipped to respond effectively during emergencies while advancing its mission of “Forging Minds, Better Tomorrow.”
