With the theme, “Generating Evidence, Inspiring Change for Educational Innovation and Social Transformation,” the Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) College of Education and Social Sciences (CESS) held the 2026 CESS Research Colloquium on July 2, 2026 at the University’s Audio-Visual Room, bringing together graduate and undergraduate student researchers, faculty members, research advisers, and evaluators.
In her welcome remarks, CESS Dean Dr. Emmylou A. Emperador recognized the dedication and courage of the student presenters, emphasizing that the colloquium is an opportunity to learn from one another and appreciate how research can contribute to education and society. She also expressed gratitude to the evaluators and research mentors for their continued guidance in developing competent researchers and future professionals.
Throughout the day, graduate and undergraduate students presented studies addressing various issues in science education, mathematics, language, assessment, instructional innovation, and other education-related fields.
Open forum sessions followed each set of presentations, allowing evaluators to provide constructive feedback and recommendations that further enriched the students’ research experience.
The highlight of the colloquium was the awarding of outstanding student researchers for their theses and oral presentations in the graduate and undergraduate categories.
For the Undergraduate Category, Sweet Kayla D. Hanasan received the Best Oral Presenter Award for “Conceptual Metaphors in Teaching and Learning Mindanaoan Myths,” while Bianca Amor P. Flores was awarded Best Thesis for “Development and Validation of a Three-Tier Diagnostic Instrument for Stoichiometry: A Multi-Framework Integration of Evidence-Centered Design and Systematic Scale Development.”
In the Graduate Category, Marlon C. Tabaosares earned the Best Oral Presenter Award for “Ekwasion: On the Mediating Effects of Teacher Support and Mathematics Anxiety Between Students’ Engagement and Mathematics Fluency.” Meanwhile, Jezeil A. Lopez received the Best Thesis Award for the Master of Science in Education (General Science) category with “Climatoons: A Cartoon-Based Learning Packet in Enhancing the Performance in Earth and Space Science of Grade 9 Learners,” while Justin P. Galinato was recognized as Best Thesis in the Master of Science in Education (Secondary Mathematics) category for “Enhancing Achievement and Problem-Solving Processes of Students Through Cube-Scaffolded Contextualized PISA-Like Mathematics Tasks.”
More than recognizing outstanding research, the colloquium honored the dedication and perseverance behind every study presented. Each thesis reflected months of inquiry, collaboration, and determination, demonstrating that meaningful research is built not only on knowledge but also on resilience, passion, and the desire to create lasting impact.
As the College of Education and Social Sciences continues to strengthen its culture of research and innovation, the 2026 CESS Research Colloquium reflects Mindanao State University at Naawan’s enduring commitment to “Forging Minds, Better Tomorrow.”
By empowering students to think critically, pursue evidence-based inquiry, and contribute solutions to contemporary issues, CESS continues to shape graduates who are not only academically equipped but also prepared to make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.
