Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao
The Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM) at Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) is a multidisciplinary research, training, and community engagement institute addressing the intertwined challenges of conflict, underdevelopment, and social injustice in Mindanao. Guided by MSUN’s vision as “a forward-thinking university fostering innovation in research and education in aquatic and allied sciences,” the IPDM champions peacebuilding efforts that are inclusive, evidence-based, and responsive to the diverse cultural, ethnic, and religious contexts of the region.
Created through BOR Resolution #107, series of 2007 as part of the MSU Peace Initiative and in response to Executive Order 570 (2006) on institutionalizing peace education in all academic institutions, IPDM integrates research, policy advocacy, capacity-building, and public dialogue to promote sustainable peace and inclusive development. By collaborating with government agencies, civil society organizations, academic partners, indigenous communities, and youth groups, the Institute advances participatory peace education, policy reform, and community resilience—bridging innovation in education and research with grassroots peacebuilding in Mindanao.
