MSUN signs 2 MOA with DOST-PCAARRD

Two (2) Memorandum of Agreements were forged today, February 8, 2023 between Mindanao State University at Naawan and the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD).The MOAs are for the implementation of the projects DEVELOPMENT OF A FRAMEWORK FOR RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, MITIGATION OF IMPACTS, AND GUIDANCE TOWARDS RATIONAL UTILIZATION OF MYTELLA STRIGATA IN THE PHILIPPINES: Project 2. Biological and Ecological Aspects and Socioeconomie Impact of the Non-indigenous Mussel, Mytella strigata, in Newly Infested Area and DEVELOPMENT OF A FRAMEWORK FOR RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, MITIGATION OF IMPACTS, AND GUIDANCE TOWARDS RATIONAL UTILIZATION OF MYTELLA STRIGATA IN THE PHILIPPINES: Project 3. Pest to Feed: The Potential Use of Non-indigenous Mussel, Mytella strigata, as Wet and Dry Feeds.For both projects, MSU at Naawan will take the lead in the implementation of project activities and coordinate with other collaborating agencies and exert all efforts such as providing facilities and technical personnel with the required expertise to attain the objectives stated in the proposal.

GROW Talabaan project organizes stakeholders’ dialogue

The GROW Talabaan Project, led by Dr. Aida D. Perpetua, along with the project team members, Dr. Nonillon Aspe, Asst. Prof. Edgar Castañares, Asst. Prof. Garry Marapao, Assoc. Prof. Desheree Judena Preciado, Ms. April Montejo, conducted a stakeholders’ dialogue at Lubilan, Naawan, Misamis Oriental. The team was also joined by retired Professor Grace Prado, President of MSU Naawan Foundation for Science and Technology and Development, Incorporated (MSUNFSTDI).The objective of the activity was to determine common goals and practicable institutional arrangements among the government agencies as inputs to establish effective strategies for the conservation and management of the Talabaan Watershed.To level off and come up with a common goal for the conservation and management of the Talabaan watershed, the activity was attended by the stakeholders from Kalipunan ng mga Katutubong Mamamayan ng Pilipinas (KATRIBU), Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) members, Lubilan Upland Farmers Association (LUFA), Lubilan Agroforestry Farmers Association (LAFA), the Local Government Unit of Naawan, the Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Office (MARPO), the Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) Office-Initao, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP).Among the highlights of the dialogue were the hopeful stories of collaboration and institutional support committed by the stakeholders to establish a unifying ground for the Talabaan watershed and the vision of a healthy Talabaan watershed in the next 10 years. Setting differences aside, the dialogue fosters healthy interdependencies that create stability in strong partnerships in light of commonalities and mutual benefits.

PAEF conducts info drive at MSUN

Mindanao State University at Naawan is honored to have been visited by the Philippine-American Foundation (PAEF) also known as the Fulbright Commission in the Philippines. On January 26, 2022, PAEF representatives Ms. Milagros Tan and Ms. Ethel Galicia, together with their Fulbright alumni Dr. Nornie Micayabas and Atty. Rashid Pandi talked to the faculty members and students of MSU at Naawan for the 2023 Fulbright Philippines Roadshow.PAEF encouraged the faculty members, university staff and officials, and the students who are looking for educational opportunities in the US, answered inquiries about the Fulbright and other scholarship programs, and gave tips on how to improve and complete the rest of the application requirements.Dr. Ruby C. Gonzales and Asst. Prof. Sylvia C. Labial, both faculty members of the university, also talked about their experiences as Fulbright alumnae.Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa, during her welcome message, expressed her hope for the faculty members of MSU at Naawan to apply for the Fulbright scholarships so that the faculty profile of the university will be more refined.For the 2024-2025 Fulbright Foreign Student, application is until April 30, 2023 only.

𝐖𝐄 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐖𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐍 | In accordance with the celebration of International Women’s Month, the Mindanao State University at Naawan successfully held its “𝐆𝐀𝐃 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬” highlighting Republic Act No. 11313, also known as the 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐜𝐭, and Republic Act No. 9262, also known as the 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢-𝐕𝐀𝐖𝐂 𝐀𝐜𝐭 on 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑. PSSgt. Julie Faye Condeza, the PNP Women’s Desk Officer in Charge at Naawan Police Station, served as a resource speaker and delivered a talk on the given topics. The goal of the said activity is to raise awareness about gender-based violence, a strong support system, and institutional support networks. The said activity was participated in by student leaders from various colleges and society organizations in the university. It ended with the awarding of certificates and closing remarks rendered by Prof. Sylvia Labial, Director of the Office of Student Services and Development. Furthermore, the event was organized by the Mindanao State University at Naawan Gender and Development Office, headed by Prof. Desheree Judena G. MOA with MSU Maguindanao; forged

Mindanao State University at Naawan forged a Memorandum of Agreement with Mindanao State University Maguindanao on January 20, 2023.In this MOA, MSU at Naawan and MSU Maguindanao are implementing a project “Population assessment, initial reproductive performance and seed quality of Giant Freshwater Prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) broodstock from Liguasan Marsh, Philippines”.The project will be conducted at designated project sites in Dalican, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao; Lala, Lanao Del Norte; and Naawan, Misamis Oriental.

On January 12, 2023, 3 Turn-Over Ceremonies for the Infrastructure Projects of Mindanao State University at Naawan were done at MSU-Naawan and Integrated Developmental School (IDS) campuses.The Turn-Over Ceremonies are for the following projects: Proposed Various Facilities in Compliance for Social Distancing due to Covid 19 Pandemic (Walkways/Right Lane, Waiting Areas, Parking Areas & Bike Racks) and Repair & Improvement of Various Buildings in IDS by NASHTONE Construction; Various Construction and Improvements of MSU-NAAWAN Campus Facilities by LANCON Construction Services; and Repairs of MESC and Senior High School Classrooms in Compliance with the Required Entrance/Exit and Social Distancing Protocol for the Prevention of COVID-19 by SONFER Construction.

MSU at Naawan signs CRA with Aklan State University

Mindanao State University at Naawan signed a Collaborative Research Agreement (CRA) on January 12, 2023 with Aklan State University- New Washington Campus. ASU is one of the five campuses of the Aklan State University active in extension works, research and instruction.MSU at Naawan is leading the project entitled, “Application of eDNA metabarcoding in faunal biodiversity assessment of Indo-Pacific mangroves vulnerable to climate change: Philippine Node” with an ultimate goal to monitor the change in fish and benthic macroinvertebrates diversity in select mangrove areas of the Philippines following a biomonitoring tool, the aquatic environmental DNA, that is standardized across all other areas in the Indo-Pacific under a regional-wide collaborative project.The purpose of the Agreement is to develop academic and educational collaboration between MSU at Naawan and Aklan State University.

MSUN officials visit PSU USA

In the exigency of service and upon invitation, MSU-Naawan officials flew to the United States of America to visit the prestigious Pennsylvania State University at University Park, PA, 16802, on December 12, 2022 to January 6, 2023. Being one of its partner university, the travel was funded by CHED-LAKAS. The MSUN officials namely, the Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa; OIAL Director Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan; Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Assistant Professor Gergie A. Ambato and the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Extension, Professor Renoir A. Abrea, came for a visit of the Penn State’s laboratory facilities, a collaborative discussion for research and teaching activities, mentorship of students and research staff, and faculty immersion.During the visit, they met with the head of the Laboratory for Materials in Medicine (MatMed), Dr. Dipanjan Pan, FRSC, FAHA, FACC, who is known for his researches on nanomedicine, molecular imaging, biosensing, diagnostics, drug delivery and medical devices. Together they discussed potential research areas for possible collaborations. The officials were also toured inside the Penn State Materials Research Institute and the Radiation Science and Engineering Center.

Mindanao State University at Naawan celebrates the abundant harvest of MSUans’ creativity and imagination after organizing events and workshops around the subject of this year’s National Arts Month theme, “𝐀𝐍𝐈 𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆, 𝐁𝐔𝐍𝐆𝐀 𝐍𝐆 𝐆𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆.” The event, which was organized by the Cultural and Sports Development Office, the MSU-N Supreme Student Council, and Mindanao State University at Naawan as a whole, featured an array of activities that showcased the skills and talents of MSUans. Graced by the presence of the MSU-N Chancellor, Dr. Elnor C. Roa; the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Gergie Ambato; Municipal Mayor, Hon. Dennis L. Roa; MSUN IDS Principal, Ms. Rosalina L. Divinagracia; MSWDO, Hacelyn Barerro; Director for Extension, Mariefe B. Quinones; the Office of the Student Services and Development (OSSD) Director, Prof. Sylvia Labial; SSC Adviser, Renz Aguhob, CPA; Sports Coordinator, Jay Philmore B.
