MSU at Naawan Researchers Earn Top Recognitions at the 37th NOMCAARRD Regional Symposium

Researchers from Mindanao State University at Naawan were recognized for their outstanding contributions during the 37th Regional Symposium on Research and Development Highlights (RSRDH) organized by the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (NOMCAARRD). The symposium was held on November 27 to 28, 2025 at DA-NMACLRC, Dalwangan, Bukidnon.
It convened researchers, scientists, and innovators across Northern Mindanao to present developments in agriculture, aquatics, environmental sciences, and natural resources. With the theme “Driving Innovation and Community Empowerment Toward a Resilient Agri-Aqua and Natural Resources Sector in Northern Mindanao,” the event highlighted research that strengthens regional sustainability and community advancement.
A research team composed of Mr. Edsel Tan, Mr. Gian Carlo B. Arcenal, Mr. Arnold C. Alguno, Mr. Ryan Lumod, Mr. Rolen Brian Rivera, Ms. Mikee Joy Rodriguez, and Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan was awarded 2nd Best Paper under the Development Category for the study titled “Development of a Paper-based Colorimetric Sensor Using Functionalized Gold Nanoparticles for Rapid and On-site Detection of Beef Meat Spoilage.” The project introduces an innovative and low-cost biosensor that enables quick and reliable detection of meat spoilage, offering promising applications in food safety monitoring and public health protection.
Another group of MSU at Naawan researchers, composed of Ms. Mechie Ann C. Florida, Ms. Rochelle A. Paculba, Assoc. Prof. Richelle A. Niepes, Asst. Prof. Junaissah Nissi L. Degoma, Dr. Ruby C. Gonzales, Assoc. Prof. Victor R. Navarro, Ms. Russel D. Banoc, Ms. Hannahleah Queen A. Rulida, and Mr. Kienth D. Olarde, received the 2nd Best Paper Award under the Research Category for the study titled “Growth Performance, Nutrient Digestibility, and Cost-Benefit Analysis of Broiler Chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus L.) Fed with Black Mussel (Mytella strigata Hanley) Meal as Replacement for Fishmeal.” The findings demonstrate the potential of black mussel meal as a sustainable and affordable alternative to fishmeal, with positive implications for poultry nutrition and production efficiency.
In addition, Mr. Erwin Jones A. Tucong received the Best Paper Award under the Thesis or Dissertation Category for his study titled “Phylogeny of Fungal Endophytes Associated with the Seagrasses of Capayas Island, Southern Philippines.” His research contributes valuable knowledge on the microbial diversity of seagrass ecosystems and supports ongoing efforts in marine conservation.
These achievements highlight the commitment of MSU at Naawan to advancing high-impact research that promotes agricultural innovation, environmental sustainability, and community development in Northern Mindanao. Congratulations to all awardees for bringing honor and distinction to the University.
