Exit Presentation of Visiting Researcher Engr. Alvin C. Alvarado

On September 11, 2025, MSU at Naawan proudly hosted the Exit Conference of Engr. Alvin C. Alvarado of Prairie Swine Center, University of Saskatchewan, Canada, who served as a Visiting Scientist at MSU at Naawan to advance his groundbreaking research on Magnetic Graphene Oxide (MGO)-based nanocomposites.
The event was spearheaded by the Office of Global Engagement and Partnership (OGEP) and honored by the presence of University Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa, Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Global Engagement Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan, Director of Research Innovation and Institute Dr. Annabelle Dece Espadero, Director of Global Engagement and Partnerships Dr. Benjoe Rey B. Visayas, along with esteemed faculty and staff.

Through this fruitful collaboration, in his study titled “Synthesis, Characterization, and Assessment of Magnetic Graphene Oxide (MGO)-Based Photocatalysts for Deoxynivalenol (DON) Degradation in Wheat Grains”, Engr. Alvarado successfully synthesized and characterized the MGO–TiO₂ nanocomposite, demonstrating an impressive 81% reduction of DON, a remarkable stride toward ensuring food safety.
He was ably supported in his research by Mr. Edsel Tan of REYLabs. Engr. Alvarado likewise expressed his profound gratitude to DOST Region X, under the leadership of Regional Director Dr. Romela Ratilla, for their strong support, as well as to Ms. Adeline Bacuado of the RSTL Division for her invaluable guidance throughout the study.
This milestone event not only highlighted the success of Engr. Alvarado’s research, but also opened doors for more innovative projects and stronger partnerships between MSU at Naawan and Prairie Swine Centre toward global research excellence.
