Mindanao State University at Naawan takes pride in its growing contributions to sustainable development through research, while remaining mindful of the challenges and opportunities ahead. With 212 Scopus-indexed publications, MSUN actively engages in addressing critical global issues such as poverty, climate change, biodiversity conservation, and economic growth. The university’s research efforts strongly align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 14 (Life Below Water), where 46 publications highlight its expertise in marine and aquatic sciences. Additionally, MSUN’s commitment to collaboration is evident in SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), leading with 53 publications that underscore the value of academic and institutional linkages in fostering sustainable development. Beyond these areas, MSUN contributes to a range of SDGs, including SDG 15 (Life on Land) with 18 publications, SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) with 14 each, and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) with 13. These research efforts reflect the university’s dedication to addressing environmental and socio-economic challenges while supporting national and global sustainability goals. The breadth of MSUN’s research spans multiple disciplines, with a strong foundation in Agricultural and Biological Sciences (27.5%), followed by Environmental Science (16.7%), Engineering (7.1%), and Earth and Planetary Sciences (5.6%). Other fields, including Biochemistry, Genetics, Chemical Engineering, and Computer Science, further enrich its research landscape. While these achievements are encouraging, they also serve as a challenge for faculty researchers to continue expanding the university’s research impact, both in terms of publication output and alignment with the full spectrum of SDGs. Moving forward, MSUN remains committed to fostering interdisciplinary research, strengthening collaborations, and sharing knowledge that contributes to meaningful change.
