Last July 18, 2023, the new DOST-PCAARRD Project funded “Utilization of Fruit Processing Waste as a Source of Prebiotics and Immunostimulants for the Development of Healthy and Improved for Aquaculture Feeds” traveled to Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay, paid a visit it to Mindanao State University-Buug Campus and met with the university Acting Chancellor Dr. Sheila G. Magolama, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Dr. Rovy M. Banguis, College of Fisheries Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Floriefe G. Torino and staffs. The visit was headed by the project leader, Dr. Fiona L. Pedroso, together with the MS Aquaculture students and project’s staff of the project. The visit was made to formally introduce the project with the Mindanao State University-Buug whom Assoc. Prof. Floriefe G. Torino has been working with. In addition,Mindanao State University-Naawan and Mindanao State University-Buug were expected to forge a Memorandum of Agreement in partnership with the project.
A site visit was also conducted at Lake Wood, Zamboanga del Sur by Fruit Processing Waste for Aquaculture Feeds Project team led by Dr. Fiona L. Pedroso and Assoc. Prof. Floriefe G. Torino to witness the young and healthy lake of Lake Wood. It is a 2-hour ride from MSU-Buug.
In the last day of the stay in Zamboanga Peninsula, the project team visited Charles & Charlie Food Products at Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay. Charles & Charlie Food Products is also one of the industry partners of the Fruit Processing Waste Project as the calamansi raw material s needed by the project will be provided by the industry. This paid visit is a meeting between the industry owner, Mr. Tany Acuesta and the project team as well as collection of calamansi wastes. Mindanao State University-Naawan and Charles & Charlie Food Product was also expected to forge a Memorandum of Agreement.
