The Northern Mindanao Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (NOMCAARRD) is an organization of agencies based in Central Mindanao University, including Mindanao State University at Naawan as one of its Consortium Member Institutions (CMIs), coordinating regional research and development/extension priorities.
This year, NOMCAARRD implemented a project, “Responding to COVID 19 Challenges for the AANR Sector: A NOMCAARD Initiative”, together with Northern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology (NMCST), Camiguin Polytechnic State College (CPSC), and Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSU at Naawan). The project specifically aims to 1) capacitate a total of 325 farmers, fisherfolks, parents, school teachers, women and two agri-based start-ups from Camiguin, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and Misamis Occidental; 2) increase of the beneficiaries’ net income by 7%; and 3) recommend policy inputs and other interventions for agri-based enterprise sustainability specially during the pandemic.
For MSU at Naawan, Tilapia Production is the university’s technology transfer that will be set forth to the nearby municipalities of Naawan, Manticao, Lugait, Initao, and Balingasag of Misamis Oriental.
As part of the project implementation, on July 13, 2022, MSU at Naawan had a Financial Management Seminar at Balintad (Tilapia) Farmers’ Association in Balintad, Manticao, Misamis Oriental. Present during the activity were Assoc. Prof. Mariefe B. Quiñones, Director for Extension; Dr. Aida D. Perpetua, Project Leader; and Mr. Eugene P. Moleño, Project Staff.
