The Mindanao State University at Naawan, through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services (OVCSAS), proudly received prestigious awards from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region X on August 26, 2025, in Cagayan de Oro City. During the Council of Student Affairs and Services Practitioners (CSASP) Region X Conference, MSU at Naawan was recognized as the Best Implementer in Institutional Programs and Services, Student Development Services, and Student Welfare Services, affirming the University’s commitment to student welfare and holistic development. Representing the University in receiving the awards were Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services, Ms. Arleen B. Uy, alongside OVCSAS’ dedicated leaders: Assoc. Prof. Juvy Arjona, Director for the Office of Student Welfare; Assoc. Prof. Sylvia C. Labial, Director for the Office of Student Development; and Assoc. Prof. Rosevel B. MSUN, AMSC forge partnership for educational collaboration

In the spirit of academic cooperation and with the shared goal of contributing to international and intercultural education, Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) and Adiong Memorial State College (AMSC) officially sealed their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on August 18, 2025. The agreement paves the way for a stronger cultural and educational collaboration between the two institutions, with particular focus on enhancing faculty expertise, student learning, research, and extension programs in Fisheries. The MOA was formally signed by MSUN Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa and AMSC President Dr. Sherifa Rohannie K. Adiong, witnessed by MSUN College of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (CFMS) Dean Dr. Dan M. Arriesgado, MSUN CFMS faculty Dr. Fernand F. Fagutao, and AMSC College of Fisheries OIC Program Coordinator Mr. Jahirun S. Mungkon. MSUN receives multiple awards from CHED

Proving its unwavering commitment to academic excellence and innovation, Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) garnered multiple distinctions from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on August 19, 2025, in Cagayan de Oro City. Among the accolades, MSUN ranked 5th among higher education institutions in Region 10 — bolstered by producing two board topnotchers in the October 2024 licensure examinations for Foresters and Fisheries Technologists. The university also received a Special Commendation as a Top Performing School in the Fisheries Technologists Licensure Examination. Further affirming its growing global reputation, MSUN was recognized for placing 226th in the 2025 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI). The awards were received by MSUN Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa and Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Global Engagement Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan, who represented the university at the event. MSUN Welcoming Week and ASEAN Founding Month Celebration

Mindanao State University at Naawan welcomed its students with a vibrant ASEAN Month celebration today, August 11, 2025. The Monday morning festivities began with a colorful parade around the campus, where MSUN employees proudly donned traditional ASEAN attire while students showcased their college colors. Waving miniature flags of ASEAN member states, the community brought energy and life to the occasion. This celebration not only marked August as ASEAN’s founding month but also served as a warm and spirited welcome to the opening of School Year 2025–2026. In her welcome message delivered by Campus Secretary Asst. Prof. Rhoy F. Castillo, Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa shared:“It is my heartfelt pleasure to welcome each and every one of you to the start of this wonderful new semester here at MSU in Naawan. As your Chancellor, I want you to know that you are not just students but part of a big, caring family — a community dedicated to nurturing your talents, dreams, and ambitions.” Concluding the program, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Asst. Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) proudly hosts the Executive Committee (EXECOM) meeting of the MSU System Faculty Federation (MSU System FF) from July 31 to August 1, 2025. The two-day meeting centers on the strategic planning and detailed preparations for the much-anticipated MSU Friendship Games – an initiative recently granted approval by the MSU Board of Regents. Warmly received by MSUN Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa, the meeting brought together key federation leaders led by the MSU System FF President and the Faculty Regent Hon. Norhayna Eryll M. Unte and Vice President Mr. Noli Vergel E. Kirit, who also serves as President of the MSUN Faculty Union. As a key institution supporting the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) in Northern Mindanao, Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) actively participated in the RAISE Summit 2025, held at Central Mindanao University in Bukidnon on January 21-22, 2025. The MSUN delegation, led by Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa, included Research and Innovation Institute Director Dr. Anabelle Dece A. Espadero, the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) team headed by Assoc. Prof. Floremie B. Apdian, Intellectual Property Rights Office Coordinator Asst. Prof. Dainna Recel Pamisa, the MSUN-Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubator (ATBI) team under Asst. Prof. Karem A. Palmes, College of Business Administration and Accountancy faculty members Asst. Prof. Stephen Magoncia and Dr. Manolito Parungao, and Manager of School of Marine Fisheries and Technology Fish Processing Unit Ms. Rowelyn Sargadillos. Their collective presence underscored the university’s unwavering support for the event and its goals. Dr. Roa further demonstrated MSUN’s commitment to the RAISE initiative by signing to Expression of Support, reinforcing the university’s dedication to fostering innovation and collaboration within the region. Moreover, the Food Category Product Pitching session featured exciting presentations, with Asst. Prof. Magoncia pitching his innovative flavored tilanggit, while Ms. Glaiza Orgino presented Chocolate Coconut Nougat from Incubatee Ms. Careen Joy E. Acut. Ms. Orgino’s pitch earned 1st place, further elevating the product’s recognition. In addition, the Chocolate Coconut Nougat was also awarded Best Food Souvenir during the National Tourism Week of Misamis Oriental 2024. Implemented by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), DOST Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development, and Northern Mindanao Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development, the summit aims to nurture a thriving innovation ecosystem where groundbreaking ideas can flourish, paving the way for long-term economic growth and food security in the region.

To celebrate students’ scholastic achievements for the quarter, Mindanao State University at Naawan – Integrated Developmental School (MSUN-IDS) held its Junior and Senior High School Recognition Program on the morning of Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the MSUN-IDS Covered Court. Students from Grades 7 to 12 were recognized for their academic excellence with awards presented during the ceremony. Dr. Emmylou A. Emperador, Dean of the College of Education and Social Sciences, extended her heartfelt congratulations to both the students and their parents for their outstanding achievements. She also expressed her hopes for continued success in the future. Following the awards presentation, the much-anticipated English Festival began, with the Character Portrayal Contest marking the start of the event. With the theme, “English as a Global Language: Bridging Cultures, Connecting the World,” students from each year level brought to life various characters from classic literary works, including Pride and Prejudice and Hamlet. In the afternoon, the Literary Translation Challenge took place, where contestants translated an English story into Bisaya. This was followed by the Philippine Song Anthology Contest, showcasing students’ talent in both performance and cultural appreciation. The event concluded with an exciting series of games, including Word Jumble, Pictionary, Pinoy Henyo, and Crossword Puzzle, engaging participants in a fun and interactive way. Assoc. Prof. Jan Cleo D. Canoy delivered closing remarks, expressing his gratitude to the students, organizers, and everyone involved, emphasizing that their collective effort was key to the event’s success. The English Festival served as a platform for students to demonstrate their language skills while fostering an appreciation for the role of English in bridging cultures and connecting the world.

With discussions on medical and clothing allowances, human resource-related topics, and general faculty information, the employees of Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) gathered at the MSUN Function House on January 17, 2025. In the morning, Ms. Nelvie Juezan, Director for Finance, discussed the Guidelines on the Grant of Medical Allowance, with Campus Infirmary Medical Officer Dr. Deanna Pauleen G. Valdez providing an overview of the Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). Following this, Ms. Juezan presented the Guidelines on the MSUN employees’ uniform and the grant of uniform/clothing allowance for the fiscal year 2025. The discussion was based on Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 16, s. 2024. Employees also participated in a vote to decide on the Filipiniana-inspired uniform, assisted by members of the University Uniform Committee. After that, Human Resource Management Officer Ms. Columba R. Dadole talked about Recruitment, Hiring, and Retirement. In the afternoon, the General Faculty meeting began with Assoc. Prof. Sylvia C. Labial’s lecture on Ethical Standards for Teachers, followed by Assoc. Prof. Juvy Arjona, who expanded on ethics and morality. Next, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Asst. Prof. Gergie A. Ambato discussed Faculty Roles, Responsibilities, and Development Programs. Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services Ms. Arleen B. Uy addressed Individual, Organization, and Agency Performance Commitment and Review. Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan, Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Global Engagement, then spoke on Research, Extension, and Innovation. Moreover, employees were also able to ask questions and clarify some concerns to the resource persons. “Try to have a minute of reflection. A minute of reflection on asking yourself what you have done in the past that you were able to sustain until today, and what you should do tomorrow aron na maabot jud nato atong retirement that we were able to deliver what is expected of us for MSU at Naawan,” said Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Last September 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Can Tho University, Vietnam, and Mindanao State University at Naawan, paving the way for a student exchange program. As a result, MSUN welcomed seven students from Can Tho University on December 9, 2024. As one of the first batches of international students hosted by MSU at Naawan following its accreditation by the Bureau of Immigration to accept foreign students, the Vietnamese students were greeted warmly by the university’s staff, faculty, and students. This enthusiastic welcome set the tone for a transformative experience. The program officially began with an orientation session, where exchange students were introduced to the university’s mission and values. A campus tour followed, showcasing the Institute of Fisheries Research and Development. A courtesy call with the Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa provided a formal yet welcoming start to their academic immersion. A major program highlight was the inclusion of English classes designed to improve communication skills. These sessions emphasized that language should never be a barrier to acquiring knowledge. The lively interactions in these classes fostered meaningful connections between the students and the university community. Academically, the program provided hands-on experience with cutting-edge research projects. Students delved into the eDNA Metabarcoding Project, combining classroom instruction with laboratory and fieldwork. They also visited the Center for Aquaculture Research, Enterprise, and Services, where they learned about advanced aquaculture technologies. Field activities included broodstock collection, allowing students to engage directly with locals and appreciate the scenic landscapes of Northern Mindanao. Marine science was another focal point of the program. Students visited the Sea Cucumber R&D Center and participated in the MYTELLA Project, which highlighted sustainable marine practices. They also explored innovative global solutions through the Fruit Waste Project. Moreover, the itinerary balanced academics with leisure and cultural exploration. At Tubajon Aquamarine Park, students enjoyed swimming, kayaking, and boat rides, fostering camaraderie and appreciation for the local environment. Meanwhile,the GROW Talabaan Project introduced them to community-driven scientific initiatives, such as water quality assessments and cultural immersion with Naawan’s indigenous ethnic group. An excursion to Initao’s Lasang Secret Adventure Park showcased the natural beauty of the region. Cultural immersion activities added depth to the experience. The students participated in Filipino Christmas celebrations, both in community and family settings, leaving a lasting impression on their hearts. As the program drew to a close, students engaged in the Giant Freshwater Prawn Technology (GiFPT) Project and visited one of the majestic waterfalls of Iligan City, Tinago Falls. The program concluded with a cultural presentation and the Exit Conference, where participants reflected on their experiences and celebrated newfound friendships. The culmination of the exchange program featured a special event at the Research Conference Room, where participants from MSU at Naawan and Can Tho University came together to share their cultural and academic insights. The program included messages from MSUN officials, Vice Chancellors Prof. Gergie A. Ambato and Prof. Arleen B. Uy, as well as a heartfelt message from Ms. Duong Doan Trang, representing Can Tho University. Cultural performances by the Indak Kalaunan Performing Arts, Koro Kaayad Kaligaon Chorale, and MSN-IDS Tremolo Rondalla as well as from our exchange students. Furthermore, MSUN Vice Chancellors emphasized a poignant takeaway from the program: “These exchange students have become the adopted sons and daughters of Mindanao State University at Naawan. If they return to the Philippines, they will always have a home here at the university.” The event concluded with the awarding of certificates and tokens, with closing remarks from Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan, Director of the Office of International Affairs and Linkages. A photo opportunity captured the memorable moments shared by participants, marking the end of a fruitful exchange program. The Exchange Student Program at MSU at Naawan not only emphasized academic excellence but also fostered cultural understanding and collaboration. On December 10, 2024, Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) was given recognition as one of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 10’s ICT Literacy and Competency Development Bureau (ILCDB) partners, during the DICT 10’s 2024 TECH4ED-DTC Regional Awards at Cagayan de Oro City. This significant recognition highlights MSUN’s active role in promoting ICT education and skill-building programs, alongside its continuous efforts to foster technological advancement in the region. The event, a key occasion in the region’s tech and education landscape, acknowledged the pivotal role of the Tech4ED Center in creating and expanding opportunities for digital literacy and competency development. Furthermore, the event celebrated how the Tech4ED initiative has successfully established robust partnerships with various educational institutions, local and national government units and agencies, ICT industry organizations, advocates, and other training bodies. These collaborations have significantly contributed to strengthening the ICT capabilities of communities, empowering individuals with essential skills for a rapidly evolving digital world.
