Mindanao State University at Naawan is proud to welcome Dr. Benjoe Rey B. Visayas, a distinguished Balik Scientist under the Department of Science and Technology Balik Scientist Program (BSP). Dr. Visayas, an esteemed alumnus of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, USA, brings with him extensive expertise in computational chemistry, materials computation, machine learning, and data science.

Before returning to the Philippines, Dr. Visayas served as a computational chemist at the National Institute on Drug Abuse Intramural Research Program (NIDA IRP) in Maryland, USA. His remarkable background and contributions make him a valuable addition to our institution.

Dr. Visayas’s arrival marks the beginning of an exciting era for MSUN. He will be joining the Research on Environment and Nanotechnology Laboratories (REY Labs) for a year under the supervision of Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan. He will work within our state-of-the-art Computational Nanotechnology Laboratory, where his presence is expected to significantly enhance our research capabilities. His role will include building capacity, organizing training sessions and workshops, and fostering research collaborations with other local institutions in Mindanao and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Additionally, Dr. Visayas will lead efforts to implement advanced Machine Learning algorithms to predict nanomaterial properties, a critical area in nanotechnology. These initiatives will not only raise the research standards at MSUN but also inspire and mentor our young researchers and students.

We are confident that Dr. Visayas’s contributions will lead to groundbreaking advancements, enhancing our research landscape and significantly benefiting our academic community. His tenure here promises to be a period of profound scientific exploration and collaboration.
